Books

Goal: Read one 1 book/week for 2019. (I’m behind but I’m finding that audible is so much more convenient for “reading.”)

my goodreads profile

The 52 books I’ll be reading (in some cases re-reading)

~40 minutes/day. First thing in the morning/waiting in line/commuting (audible) etc.

Why: My reading has been sporadic for the past couple of years. I’d start reading something out of inspiration, not finish it and then feel guilty afterwards. I’d make excuses: “I’ll get around to that” “I just don’t have time” “I don’t need this knowledge for school” “It’s a waste of mental energy” etc. except I always knew that when I read I feel engaged. When I feel engaged I find I am the most happy (Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi talks about this in Flow which I’ll be rereading cause it’s soooo good). After feeling the pain of this incongruence over and over I finally decided to change. Deep down I know I should do it so why not just listen to myself instead of resisting?

So far it has been amazing. I’m more productive, I waste less time, and most of all I don’t feel guilty after I do it. I’ve felt my engagement in academic and athletic pursuits sharpen. I’ve noticed a general shift in my attitude towards life and relationships. It is a grounding force.
